Sharks take bite out of Jets as Pavelski scores game winner with five seconds left in 3rd Featured

Winnipeg, Manitoba (NHN)-Joe Pavelski scored the game winner with 5 seconds left in regulation as the San Jose Sharks edged the Winnipeg Jets by a 5-4 score Tuesday night. Pavelski drove the net hard and got his stick on a Timo Meier feed as he streaked toward the net and beat Connor Hellebuyck just under the cross bar to end a see-saw battle with the Jets which saw the lead change hands no less than five times.

The goal was his 37th of the season.

Gustav Nyquist scored twice for the Sharks, who won their sixth straight contest.

Marc Eduard Vlasic added a goal and an assist for San Jose.

Marcus Sorensen also scored for the Sharks.

Aaron Dell picked up the win for the San Jose, stopping 22 shots.

Andrew Copp, Bryan Little, Kyle Connor scored for the Jets, who lost their second straight game. Matthieu Perreault had a goal and an assist.

Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 31 shots for Winnipeg.

San Jose scored first when Marc-Eduard Vlasic followed up on his own shot before sliding the disc between Connor Hellebuyck's pads to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 8:05 of the first.

Andrew Copp tied it up 32 seconds later after he got his stick on a Ben Chiarot wrister, beating Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell just inside the left post.

The goal was his 10th of the season.

Bryan Little gave the Jets the lead at 9:10 after he kept a puck in at the blue line before getting a shot on net.

The puck went in off of San Jose defenceman Justin Braun to make it 2-1 Jets.

Gustav Nyquist capitalized on a Tomas Hertl feed at 16:04 after Hertl pushed the Winnipeg defence in after gaining the blue line with speed before dishing to Nyquist, who lifted a backhander past Hellebuyck.

The goal was his 18th of the season.

Winnipeg capitalized on the power play with 45 seconds left in the first period when Patrik Laine found Kyle Connor by the side of the net and hit him with a crisp pass from the left circle.

Connor stickhandled before roofing a backhand shot just under the cross bar, beating Dell over his glove hand.

The goal was his 27th of the season.

Nyquist tied the game with his second of the night 10:33 into the second, tipping a Marc-Eduard Vlasic shot past Hellebuyck to score his 19th of the season.

Marcus Sorensen gave the Sharks the lead two minutes into the third when he hammered a puck past Hellebuyck off a Joe Thornton feed from behind the net.

The goal was his 16th of the season.

Matthieu Perreault tied it late in the third when he tipped a Tyler Myers shot from the point past Dell to make it 4-4 at 16:22.
