Jets dominate Blackhawks to post 5-1 win Featured

Winnipeg, Manitoba (NHN)-Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers each scored once and added an assist and Eric Comrie won his second straight start as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Chicago Blackhawks by a 5-1 score Friday night.

Paul Stastny, Neal Pionk, Dominic Toninato also scored for Winnipeg, who moved to 6-2-2.

Andrew Copp had three assists for the Jets.

Eric Comrie made 17 saves, winning his second straight contest in relief of starter Connor Hellebuyck, who was sidelined with a mystery illness.

Mackenzie Entwistle scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks, who lost their 2nd straight contest.

Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 28 shots as Chicago dropped to 1-9-2.

Paul Stastny got the Jets an early lead 47 seconds into the contest when he worked a perfect give-and-go with Andrew Copp, who sent him in alone on Blackhawks netminder Marc-Andre Fleury.

Stastny made no mistake, beating him between the legs to put the Jets up 1-0.

Neal Pionk scored on the power play at 2:23 when he found himself alone in the high slot with the puck.

After looking to pass it, Pionk blasted the disc past Fleury, beating him high glove side to make it 2-0 at 2:23.

The goal was his first of the season.

Chicago appeared to have scored 17 seconds into the second period when Ryan Carpenter knocked a rebound past Jets goaltender Eric Comrie as Blake Wheeler's hooking penalty expired but video challenge determined the play was offside.

Dominic Toninato gave Winnipeg a 3-0 lead 13:48 into the second when Andrew Copp sent him in alone with a crisp pass from the blue line.

The goal was his first of the season.

Kyle Connor made it 4-0 15:17 into the second when Nate Schmidt banked the puck off the boards and the Jet winger did the rest, breaking into the Blackhawks end down the right side before beating Fleury just inside the left post.

The goal was his 8th of the season.

Mackenzie Entwistle got Chicago on the board just under a minute into the third with a shorthanded tally.

The Chicago forward hustled to the far post, hammering the puck past Comrie when it came off the end boards 56 seconds into the third.

The goal was his 2nd of the season.

Nikolaj Ehlers scored 14:03 into the third when he intercepted a pass at centre ice before moving into the high slot and snapping a wrister past Fleury, beating him high glove side to make it 5-1 Winnipeg.

The goal was his 3rd of the season.

Chicago returns home to host Nashville Sunday while Winnipeg hosts the New York Islanders Saturday night.
