Marlies edge Moose 3-2 to spoil home opener

Winnipeg, Manitoba (NHN)-Tyler Gaudet's goal 1:44 into the third period proved to be the game winner Friday night as the Toronto Marlies edged the Manitoba Moose by a score of 3-2.

Gaudet got his stick on a Jordan Schmaltz shot from the point and redirected it past Moose goaltender Mikhail Berdin.

The goal was his first of the season and second win for Toronto, who won their second game of the season.

Andrei Chibisov and Logan Shaw scored for the Moose.

Mikhail Berdin stopped 20 shots for Manitoba, who dropped to 1-2-0-0 on the season.

Egor Korshkov, Pierre Engvall and Tyler Gaudet scored for the Marlies.

Kasimir Kaskisuo made 20 stops for Toronto.

Egor Korshkov scored 8:41 into the opening period, snapping a rebound off a Tyler Gaudet rush past Moose goaltender Mikhail Berdin to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead.

Andrei Chibisov evened the contest at 14:10 after gaining control of a loose puck just inside the Toronto blue line before moving to the center of the ice and snapping a low wrister past Marlies goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo.

Pierre Engvall made it 2-1 with 2:33 remaining in the first period after Pontus Aberg hit him with a crisp pass at the Manitoba blue line before he streaked in and beat Berdin with a high wrister.

Logan Shaw scored shorthanded 2:11 into the second after poking the puck off of Jeremy Bracco's stick at centre ice before breaking in alone and beating Kaskisuo with a backhand deke.

Bracco redeemed himself early in the third period when he threw the puck back to defenceman Jordan Schmaltz who unleashed a slapper which Tyler Gaudet managed to redirect past Berdin at 1:44 to give Toronto a 3-2 lead.
