Winnipeg now sits atop the Central Division standings with an 8-3-1 record.
The Jets swept a three-game homestand and have won six of their last seven games, their only blemish an overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on their last road trip.
“We’re just comfortable playing our game. We’re not sitting back on our heels, we’re playing on our toes, we’re making it hard on teams to make plays and make continuous passes. That comes with playing fast and having good sticks and trusting your teammates. I think we’ve done a really good job with that," said Scheifele.
Scheifele was a part of a second period offensive explosion for the Jets, who broke the game open with three tallies in a 2:45 minute span.
The Jets fired four goals in the second stanza after a scoreless first period.
Mason Appleton had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg.
Pierre-Luc Dubois and Saku Maenalanen also scored for the Jets.
Kyle Connor had three assists for the Jets.
Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves for Winnipeg.
Jason Robertson scored for the Stars, who finished a three-game road trip with a loss.
Scott Wedgewood turned aside 28 shots as Dallas, who dropped to 8-4-1.
There was no scoring in the first period.
Jason Robertson broke the stalemate just over three minutes into the second when he snagged a loose puck off of Neal Pionk's skate in the slot and beat Hellebuyck with a blocker side wrister to make it 1-0 Stars.
The goal was his 9th of the season.
Mark Scheifele replied 21 seconds later when he finished off a nifty three-way passing play off the rush, burying a cross-crease Mason Appleton feed to get the Jets on the board.
Pierre-Luc Dubois gave Winnipeg the lead at 4:37 when he found himself in front of a wide open net after Dallas goaltender Scott Wedgewood had a miscue behind the Dallas goal.
Blake Wheeler got his stick on the puck and got the puck to Cole Perfetti who relayed it to a wide open Dubois.
Dubois lifted a backhand shot into the net to make it 2-1 Jets.
The goal was his 6th of the season.
Scheifele potted his second of the night at 6:12.
Kyle Connor got control of the puck behind the Stars goal and worked himself into the high slot before curling hard toward the left boards and accelerated before hitting Scheifele with a cross crease feed which he tapped past Wedgewood to make it 3-1 Jets.
The goal was his 8th of the season.
Saku Maenalanen got his stick on a Neal Pionk shot late in the second period to give the Jets a 4-1 lead at 18:14.
The goal was his first as a Winnipeg Jet.
Mason Appleton scored an empty netter with just under three minutes left in regulation to seal the win for the Jets.
The game was an early season first place showdown.
But that mattered little to Appleton.
“It’s big time. When I was traded back here at the end of last year, there was a couple of meaningless hockey games, you were just playing for your pride. Those games aren’t near as fun as playing for first place, no matter if that is Game 12 or Game 75. We love where our game is at right now, and to be in first place feels damn good," he said.
Jets Head Coach Rick Bowness says his club is starting to see the fruits of their labours.
“I see a more confident team. They understand if they play the right way and do these things that we keep preaching, we’re going to have success. We are going to cut down on the chances against, the shots against and we are going to have a lot more fun when we get the puck. I think that they are starting to see it. They should see it. They’re playing like they see it. The confidence is there right now," said Bowness.
Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer said his club just wasn't good enough.
"I thought we had a really poor first period. I thought we kind of regrouped at the beginning of the second, scored the first goal, started to play and then you know just some poor decisions and some poor execution for five or six minutes and we lost all of our momentum and you know the game was essentially over at that point."
Dallas returns home to host San Jose Friday while Winnipeg visits Calgary on Saturday.

Friday, 04 November 2022 03:56 Written by Philip Paul-MartinThe goal snapped an eight game scoring drought for the Jet winger, who hadn't scored since potting an empty netter in the season opener against the New York Rangers.
The Jet winger took a Mark Scheifele drop pass at the top of the circle before moving in and snapping a low glove side wrister past Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault.
"I think I tried him high-glove like seven times today, so changed it up there," said Connor, who had several chances to end the scoring drought, including a wide open net.
The goal was his second of the season.
Connor also had an assist on the night.
Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg.
Blake Wheeler had the other Jet goal.

The goal was his 6th of the season.
Pierre-Luc Dubois tied the contest at 17:28 on the power play.
With Rem Pitlick off for hooking Dubois took a relayed pass from Kyle Connor before moving in from the left point wiring a wrister just inside the right post to knot the game at 1.

The goal was his 2nd of the season.
Blake Wheeler replied for the Jets 41 seconds later, sliding a loose puck in the crease past Montembeault to tie the contest at 2 after the Canadiens goaltender let the puck through his pads off a heavy slap shot from Pierre-Luc Dubois at 5:35.
The goal was his 3rd of the season and 299th of his career.
Wheeler appeared to bump the Montreal goalkeeper out of the way before backhanding the puck into the net.
The goal was challenged by the Canadiens for goaltender interference, but was ruled a good goal.
There was no scoring in the third period and the game went to overtime.
Canadiens Head Coach Martin St. Louis was happy with his teams' effort to close out their four game road trip.
"“Yeah, probably the flow of… it was a pretty even game. Considering all the kills we had to execute, I was happy to be in that situation in the third, being tied going into the third and getting an opportunity on the power play in the third, and I thought we got some good looks. Unfortunately we just get the extra point. But overall, pretty pleased," he said.
Jets Head Coach Rick Bowness had nothing but praise for Connor.
"It’s nice to see it go in, obviously. There is perseverance. Just stay with it. Again, the chances are Grade A’s. There are times you want the right guy to get the puck at the right time, in the right spot, and it was coming to him a lot tonight. It was one of those, it wasn’t going in, and he couldn’t pick a better time to score. It was a goal scorer’s goal - off the far post and in. That’s perseverance. Just stay with it. Again, we had that discussion, if you’re not getting opportunities - and that’s when you have to look at what you’re doing wrong - he’s not doing anything wrong. The puck just isn’t going in. That kid tonight made a lot of huge saves. Give their goalie a lot of credit tonight."

Tavares has pair of power play goals as Maple Leafs down Jets 4-1

The Maple Leafs have won four of their last five outings.
David Kampf and Michael Bunting had the other Toronto goals.
Auston Matthews had three assists for the Maple Leafs.
Ilya Samsonov made 31 saves for Toronto, who moved to 4-2-0.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored the Jets lone goal on the night.
Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 24 shots for Winnipeg, who dropped to 2-3-0.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored 4:17 into the contest when he went after his own rebound and slid the puck past Samsonov.
Cole Perfetti hit Dubois with a crisp cross ice feed which he stepped into before potting his second goal of the season.
With Josh Morrissey off for interference John Tavares tied it up at 9:36 off a slick backhand feed from William Nylander, beating Connor Hellebuyck with a high shot just past the cross bar to make it 1-1.
The goal was his 2nd of the season.
David Kampf gave the Maple Leafs the lead at 14:34 off a slick backhand feed from Wayne Simmonds who hit Kampf in the slot with a through the legs pass.
Kampf slid a low shot past Hellebuyck after driving the net to make it 2-1 Maple Leafs.
“Cliffy made a great play coming through the neutral zone and I think me and Appleton ran into each other. I just slipped the puck to the middle. I just grabbed it and saw somebody coming behind, so I just grabbed it and tried to throw it there as quick as possible and Kampfer just had a great shot," said Simmonds.
Maple Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe wasn't surprised at all with Simmond's play.
"Well I mean you know Wayne's a guy that's made a lot of plays in this league. So you know every now and again he pulls it out so it was good to see."
Tavares gave Toronto a two-goal cushion late in the second period on the power play when he tipped an Auston Matthews point shot past Hellebuyck to make it 3-1 at 18:56.
The goal was his 3rd of the season.
“I’m just trying to be myself, I think," said Tavares.
"Be productive and consistently continue to evolve my game over my career. And obviously, finding some pretty good players, and we’ve got a good team. Continuing to read off of them, using my skill set to continue trying to make them better and then make plays and contribute when those opportunities come, which they obviously do. Be good without the puck in your own end, which usually leads to good things."
Dubois, who scored the Jets lone goal on the night and has a pair in his last two contests said scoring doesn't matter a whole lot, wins do.
"It’d be nice if we could get a win out of those two games at least. I mean, at the end of the year if I score 50 and we don’t win, it doesn’t mean much to me. If me not scoring means we win, I’ll take that," said Dubois.
Jets Head Coach Rick Bowness said the difference in the game was special teams.
“The difference in the game was clearly specialty teams. We hit a couple of goal posts. And theirs went in. We had some good looks and just didn’t capitalize on them. It comes down to when they score two power play goals and we didn’t score any. We had some really good looks but they just didn’t go in," he said.
