Red Wings roll over Jets 5-1 Featured

Winnipeg, Manitoba (NHN)-J.T. Compher scored twice to pace the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night.

Detroit has won four of their last five contests.

Lukas Raymond had a goal and an assist.

Alex DeBrincat also scored for the Red Wings.

John Gibson made 25 saves for Detroit, who moved to 32-6-5.

Cole Koepke scored the lone goal for the Jets, who have lost four of their last five games after winning four in a row.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 26 shots for Winnipeg, who dropped to 20-24-7.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Cole Koepke opened the scoring just over halfway into the second when he sprawled and knocked a loose disc past John Gibson to give the Jets a 1-0 lead at 10:08.

The goal was his 4th of the season.

J.T. Compher tied it 15:50 into the second when he lifted a backhand past Hellebuyck as he was falling to the ice during a goalmouth scramble.

Compher scored the go-ahead goal 1:43 into the third when he drove the net hard and re-directed a hard pass from Emmit Finnie at the edge of the crease past Hellebuyck to make it 2-1 Red Wings.

The goal was his 8th of the season.

Lucas Raymond gave Detroit a two-goal cushion 8:11 into the third when he cut hard to the net, forcing Hellebuyck to make a save in tight before the puck deflected upward and arched into the Winnipeg goal.

The play was reviewed for a high stick by Marco Kasper but it was allowed to stand.

Alex DeBrincat added an empty netter with 1:49 remaining in regulation to seal the win for the Red Wings.

Marco Kasper added to the lead to make it 5-1, beating Hellebuyck with a wrister to make it 5-1 Detroit with 1:17 remaining.
