The only goaltender to reach 300 wins faster was the Montreal Canadiens legendary Jacques Plante.
“It feels good. The anticipation was killing me a little bit. That’s not how I played it out this week, but the guys played so hard in front of me and the crowd was incredible tonight. That’s a very memorable one," said Hellebuyck.
Morgan Barron, Josh Morrissey, Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi scored for Winnipeg, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Mark Scheifele had a pair of assists for the Jets.
Winnipeg moved to 28-12-2.
Roman Josi had a goal and an assist for the Predators.
Filip Forsberg had the other Nashville goal.
Juuse Saros turned aside 26 shots for Nashville, who dropped to 13-21-7.
Morgan Barron scored 6:30 into the first to give the Jets the lead when he stuffed the puck past Saros during a goalmouth scramble.
The goal was his 4th of the season.
Josh Morrissey gave Winnipeg a two-goal lead 16 seconds later after taking a Dylan DeMelo feed before stepping into a slapshot from the left faceoff circle and beating Saros high glove side.
The goal was his 5th of the season.
Kyle Connor scored at 18:36, when Mark Scheifele caught him cruising through the slot and slid him the puck from the right side boards.
Connor beat Saros with a short side wrister from the top of the faceoff circle to make it 3-0 Winnipeg.
The goal was his 23rd of the season.
Filip Forsberg scored on the power play at 16:45 to get Nashville on the board when he converted a Roman Josi feed past Hellebuyck, beating the Jets netminder with a low wrister.
The goal was his 10th of the season.
Gabriel Vilardi scored 13 seconds into a power play when he neatly tipped a Nikolaj Ehlers feed past Saros at 7:51 of the third period.
The tally was his 19th of the season.
Roman Josi cut the Winnipeg lead in half at 9:25 when he scored off a slapshot that ricocheted off of Jet defenceman Logan Stanley's skate to make it 4-2.
The goal was his 8th of the season.
Nashville had a two-man advantage for 1:28 in the third period when Kyle Connor took a hooking penalty while the Jets were shorthanded with just under seven minutes left in regulation but were unable to score.
Overall the Predators power play sputtered, going 1-7 with the man advantage on the night, a fact not lost on Preds Head Coach Andrew Brunette. “I think when you're 1-for-7, you get a 5-on-3 and you don't score, that always stings a little bit. Besides that, I think for the most part, most of the time I like what we were doing. We didn't get rewarded. You know, I think there's little stretches there where we got a little bit, I guess, sloppy with the puck. We were a little bit slow to move it. We probably left plays out there. That's always frustrating when you're on the power play, watching the power play, when that happens. But, you know, it's been that kind of stretch for us," he said.
Nino Niederreiter flipped the disc into an empty net at 17:55 to seal the win for the Jets.
Jets Head Coach Scott Arniel was happy with the win and took time to describe what he sees in his goaltender, whose milestone wasn't lost on him.
"I think there's been sort of era goalies. I don't want to go too far back and give away my age but I mean if you go through [Martin Brodeur], you go through Patrick Roy, you work your way up. I had a chance to be around [Henrik Lundqvist] in New York. Like elite players that are on the ice trying to score goals, when you see goalies do it because of them playing that position... just like the third period tonight, those shots that were coming at him — especially on that penalty kill — that's the greatness that you see. And to be able to be around that, to watch that and be behind a bench watching that every night — that's special for me. These guys, they only come around every so often. He's one of those guys. And we've got him for a few more years, which is great," he said.
Winnipeg hosts Los Angeles Friday while Nashville returns home to host Washington on Saturday.
