Jets down Canucks 3-1 to close out four game homestand

Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist for the Jets while Cole Perfetti scored the other Jet goal off a nifty move in the third period.
Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 23 shots for Winnipeg, who moved to 51-19-4.
The win gave Winnipeg some breathing room in the NHL's Western Conference as they extended their lead on the second place Dallas Stars to six with 106 points.
Pius Suter scored the lone goal for the Canucks.
Thatcher Demko made 24 saves for Vancouver who dropped to 34-27-13 and further out of the Western Conference playoff picture, losing four of their last six contests.
Pius Suter opened the scoring late in the first period when Tyler Myers gained the blue line and hit Suter as he drove the net and he made no mistake beating Hellebuyck with a short side wrister to make it 1-0 Canucks.
The goal was his 22nd of the season.
The Jets had the play reviewed for being offside but the goal was allowed to stand.
Kyle Connor got the Jets on the board 9:26 into the second when he skated into a Mark Scheifele feed before moving in on Thatcher Demko and snapping a wrister through his pads to knot the score at 1.

Mason Appleton gave the Jets the lead 6:24 into the third when he knocked a loose puck in the crease past Demko that stood still after a Nikolaj Ehlers shot hit Adam Lowry's skate.

Winnipeg, who were attempting to clinch a Western Conference playoff berth, will have to wait until Tuesday to do so when they host the Washington Capitals.
J.J. Peterka, Rasmus Dahlin, Alex Tuch and Tyson Kozak also scored for the Sabres.
Jacob Bernard-Docker had a pair of assists.
James Reimer turned aside 34 shots for Buffalo, who moved to 28-35-6.

Buffalo's two-goal lead was short lived as Colin Miller took a Mark Scheifele feed at the blue line before moving in and parking a shot just under the crossbar just 22 seconds later to make it 3-2.

Alex Tuch scored shorthanded 13:21 into the third after Ryan Mcleod sent him in alone.

Vilardi lifted the puck past Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin's glove to make it 2-1.

Dylan DeMelo appeared to give the Jets the lead just over five minutes into third when he beat Shesterkin through a screen provided by Morgan Barron but New York challenged, citing interference.
The challenge was successful the score remained 2-1.
There was no scoring in the third period.
The Rangers visit Minnesota Thursday while Winnipeg hosts Dallas on Friday.

Pyotr Kochetkov turned aside 27 shots for Carolina who dropped to 32-18-4.
Carolina appeared to have taken the lead when Jackson Blake took a drop pass from Seth Jarvis and beat Comrie high blocker side but the Jets challenged goaltender interference successfully after Mikko Rantanen made contact with the goaltender.
Nino Niederreiter gave the Jets the lead on the power play in the last minute of the first period.
With Sean Walker off for tripping, Nino Niederreiter snapped a puck past Kochetkov after Alex Iafallo found him wide open in the right side faceoff circle and slid him the disc at 19:18f.
Neal Pionk gave the Nets a two-goal lead 3:13 into the second period on the power play when he snapped up the puck after Dimitri Orlov blocked a Cole Perfetti shot and blew a slap shot past Kochetkov, beating him high glove side to make it 2-0 Winnipeg.

Vladislav Namestnikov appeared to give Winnipeg a 3-0 lead with 6 minutes remaining in regulation but his goal was disallowed due to him kicking the puck into the net.
The disallowed goal was the first of two to go against Winnipeg as Rasmus Kupari appeared to score with 3:41 remaining in the third on second effort but his pending tally was also waved off.
The Jets challenged the ruling and the goal was allowed to stand to give Winnipeg a three-goal cushion.

Calgary's offence was out of synch on the night as they didn't register their first shot on goal until just past the ten minute mark of the first period. Winnipeg's league leading power play struck twice, marking the 11th time this season the Jets had a pair of power play goals.
Mason Appleton gave Winnipeg a two-goal cushion just over the half way mark of the second period when he snagged Mikael Backland's weak backhand clearing attempt in front of the net and slid the disc past Vladar to make it 2-0 at 10:17.

With Mason Appleton off for cross checking, MacKenzie Weegar got Calgary on the board with a power play marker at 15:08 when he snuck a slapshot through a screened Eric Comrie to make it 2-1.
Gabriel Vilardi restored Winnipeg's two-goal cushion at 19:09 of the second period when Mark Scheifele hit Dylan Samberg with a cross ice feed and the Jet defenceman adeptly dropped the disc for Vilardi, who was on the way to the net.
Vilardi picked the far corner, hitting the inside of the left post to make it 3-1 Jets.
With Calgary tagged with a too-many-men infraction the league leading Winnipeg power play went to work, converting at 3:07 of the third when Kyle Connor hit Vilardi with a short pass, close in to the net which he converted to score his 22nd goal of the season.
The Flames replied 1:20 later when Nazem Kadri converted a Jake Bean feed from beside the net before stuffing the disc past Comrie from the edge of the crease to make it 4-2 at 4:27.
Mark Scheifele converted a Gabriel Vilardi feed on the power play at 7:08 of the third period to make it 5-2 Jets.

The puck bounced off the end boards and found Connor Ingram in no man's land as the disc took a favorable bounce.
Gustafsson fired the disc into the open goal to score his 1st of the season.
Barrett Hayton scored 1:19 into the third to knot the contest at 2 when John Marino hit him with a crisp pass at the top of the right faceoff circle.
Hayton made no mistake, beating Hellebuyck blocker side with a wrister to score his 12th goal of the season.
Cole Perfetti broke the tie 5:51 into the third when Vladislav Namestnikov slid him the disc in front of the net and he fired it into a wide open net.

The win was their third straight.
It was also the 600th NHL career game for the Jet defenceman.
Mark Scheifele scored the other goal for the Jets.
Connor Hellebuyck made 18 saves for Winnipeg, who moved to 21-12-3.
Matty Beniers scored for the Kraken, who finished off a five-game road trip with a loss.

Dylan DeMelo netted the game winner late in the third period to seal the win for the Jets.
Winnipeg wraps up an eight-game homestand Saturday when they face Calgary while Seattle returns home to host Los Angeles.

Connor nets natural first period hat trick as Jets dump Canucks 6-1

“You’re the recipient of a nice pass on the first one from Gabe. And then the next, just kind of being in the right spot, where the bounces just seem to be goin the right way. Especially early. We’ve had those nights, like the other night, where we’re hitting posts and they’re not going in. So just one of those nights where I was able to bury a couple," said Connor.
The Jet winger had a four-point night overall, assisting on a third period power play goal.
Neal Pionk, Nino Niederreiter and Mark Scheifele also scored for Winnipeg.
Gabriel Vilardi had three assists for the Jets and Cole Perfetti had a pair of assists.
Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for Winnipeg, who moved to 30-12-3.
Nils Hoglander scored for the Canucks.
Kevin Lankinen turned side 27 shots for Vancouver, who dropped to 19-14-10.
The Canucks have lost five of their last six games and finished their five-game road trip with four out of a possible ten points.
Winnipeg has won three of their last four games, their only blemish an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
Connor's first came just under seven minutes into the opening stanza when Gabriel Vilardi who intercepted Lankinen's clearing attempt from behind the net in the corner before feeding Connor who was cruising through the slot.
Connor fired the disc into an open net to make it 1-0 Jets.
Connor scored again at 13:01 when he netted a rebound off a Gabriel Vilardi shot using a backhand deke before sliding the puck past Lankinen.
Connor's third tally came on a breakaway 36 seconds later when Gabriel Vilardi sent him in alone as he beat Lankinen with a forehand deke.
The goal was his 26th of the season.
Neal Pionk scored 39 seconds into the second, blasting a Cole Perfetti feed past Lankinen, beating him high blocker side to give Winnipeg a 4-0 lead.
The goal was his 6th of the season.
Nino Niederreiter made it 5-0 at 15:56 when he banked the puck off of Lankinen as he was passing the net.
The goal was his 12th of the season.
With Tyler Myers off for hooking, Mark Scheifele converted a Nikolaj Ehlers feed from the side of the net to make it 6-0 Jets 1:31 into the third.
The goal was his 26th of the season.
Nils Hoglander got Vancouver on the board 9:16 into the third when he stole the puck from Jet defenceman Logan Stanley before breaking in and beating Hellebuyck blocker side with a wrister to score his 3rd of the season.
"They're (Jets) too good of a team to give them a lead like that," said Vancouver winger Connor Garland afterward.
"It's a tough way to go." Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet was succinct in his assessment following the game.
"Three major blunders right? I didn't actually mind the first. But the three mistakes in the net. That's a good hockey club over there (Jets) and then obviously everybody on our team had a tough night," he said.
Both clubs see action again on Thursday as Winnipeg hosts Seattle and Vancouver returns home to face Los Angeles.
